In the fall of 2014, I had the honor finally “meeting” Oprah Winfrey. I watched her television program every single day, Monday - Friday, for as long as I could remember throughout my childhood.
I daydreamed of visiting her set in Chicago, but that fantasy never transpired.
So, when I learned that she'd be making a stop in Washington D.C. for her “The Life You Want” tour, after her infamous talk show was off the air in 2011, I knew it could be my only chance to finally see her in the flesh.
When, what feels like a magical opportunity, is presented to you — my belief is to go big, or go home. I invested my side hustle income to experience my mentor upclose and personal.
I went with the VIP package.
When discovering that my seat was directly in front of the tour producers, my body practically began to levitate as I passed by her longtime sidekick, executive producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Sheri Salata.
The next few days were truly a dream come true. Eat Pray Love author Elizabeth Gilbert, inspirational speaker Iyanla Vanzant, Pastor Rob Bell, and spiritual writer Mark Nepo presented alongside Oprah.
Oprah was the catalyst to my devotion for personal development and self improvement. Her show's guests became my virtual advisors, gurus and confidants for living my best life. Dr. Phil, Eckhart Tolle, Martha Beck, to name a few. These people truly played an integral part of shaping me into who I am today — an intuitive life coach.
Last week, I came across journal notes from my weekend with Oprah. Reading her wisdom captured in writing, is simply too good, too holy, too profound — not to share.
Your happiness and fullness is in direct proportion to how centered you are with your inner spirit.
Why are you here? Because you’ve been called. Honor your calling. Everyone has a calling and a purpose.
“I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul.” Invictus
If things are off in your life, it’s your life talking to you, trying to push you in a direction.
Your power comes from giving it away. Not everyone can be famous, but everyone can be great, because greatness is defined by service.
Everyone just wants to be heard and seen. “Does what I say mean anything to you?”
If you have an argument, as soon as the person knows they’ve been heard, the argument is over.
Oprah said her show took off once she dedicated it to service. The law of gravity is a fact — the same is true for The Third Law of Motion in physics (Newton) — the law of every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The energy you put out will always come back to you; it’s happening whether you know it or not. Haters may not believe it. Jealousy, envy, hatred. It is all energy and comes back to you. The same is true of love.
You co-create your life with the energy of your intention that you bring to every situation.
Be intentional with what you want people to feel and experience.
Oprah said she used to have the, “disease to please.” Ask yourself, “Why would I want to do that?”
You become what you believe — not what you wish for.
Energy is EVERYTHING.
Be responsible for the energy that you bring into the room. Stop worrying about others’ energy, focus only on your own energy. Create the life you want through your energy.
Your greatest power is Love. You’re either working in love, or fear. Fear is about feeling unworthy. Choose love — make that your spiritual practice.
In the most difficult times, going through crisis, people disappointing you, etc., let love rise up anyway.
There’s always a second chance, as long as you’re breathing, all will be well. She referred to this as the, “Sunrise Faith.”
Failure is life at its most poignant, trying to push us in a different direction.
Be excellent.
If you woke up in this morning, it means you get a second chance. Your life is speaking to you all the time.
A whisper is a message. In your mind and intuition, it sounds like “Hmmmm. That’s weird. That doesn’t make sense.” Pay attention. If you don’t, the whisper becomes a pebble on your head. And then a brick. And then a brick wall — a disaster.
A “trial” is something that stands outside of you and forces you to focus on the truth.
Whatever it is you’re going through, stop and say “thank you.” Everything you’ve been going through helps you get through.
If something is wrong, ask yourself what you are doing to create it (i.e. through your energy).
Be grateful instead of complaining.
Write a new story.
There is no life without a spiritual life.
Whatever has happened to you, has happened for you.
What you focus on in your life expands.
“When you want something, the Universe conspires in helping you achieve it.” (Paulo Coelho)
You are the master of your mind. You have power over your thoughts. Change the language you use that isn’t positive.
What follows, “I am _____,” is going to come look for you. For example, if you tell yourself, “I’m broke,” or “I’m always tired,” it will find you.
Thank you, Oprah, your fingerprints are on just about every aspect of my life.
